Dennis and June Wolter were not youth members of 4-H. June became involved with 4-H when their oldest daughter joined the Volga Readers 4-H Club in Clayton County and became a club leader. Dennis at that time was active as a club parent helping with various club activities.
Dennis and June have 3 children; Amanda, Brittany and Zachary, all who have been involved in the 4-H program and held various club offices. When their youngest child joined the Garnavillo Hawks 4-H Club in Clayton County, both Dennis and June became the clubs organizational leaders.
June had been a club leader for 15 years. During these years she also helped judge record books on the county level. Even though she is no longer a club leader she still volunteers for the local club on an as needed basis. June promotes the
4-H club program through her job as a librarian at the Garnavillo Public Library, and has referred many families in the community to the local 4-H club. As a 4-H club leader, June tried to help lead the 4-H members in a positive direction and help them see setting goals and following 4-H practices will help them in later years. June also volunteered many hours in the Head Start educational program when her children were growing up.
Dennis had been a 4-H club leader for 9 years and a 4-H Shooting Sports instructor for Clayton County. Dennis served on the 4-H Extension Council Nominating Committee for several years. He also is a member of St. Joseph’ s Church in Garnavillo and helps with various activities in the church holding an office of Parish Council president, teaching Faith Formation Classes for 20 years and confirmation director for 15 years. Dennis’ goal has always been to have all kids involved in community activities (4-H members and non-4-H members) and that they have a positive experience
In 2016 Dennis and June received the Clayton County Honorary 4-H Member award. Dennis and June continue to volunteer and promote the 4-H program whenever possible. They currently have two granddaughters and enjoy attending their soccer and dance activities when possible.
