Being a volunteer takes someone with a big heart, enthusiasm, a positive attitude and a passion for “making the best better”. Iowa County has been lucky enough to have many volunteers meeting that description but one in particular has gone above and beyond for many years. Diane Wilson has worn many hats over her 18 plus years of being part of the Iowa County 4-H program.
Diane Wilson served as 4-H leader of the Fairview Zippers 4-H Club. She has been active on many county boards including Referendum Committee, Extension Council Nominating Committee and very visible in the Marengo Community leading her 4-H Club to hundreds of hours of community service projects. One example under Diane’s leadership was building a display case in Zentmire Hall on the Iowa County Fair Grounds for the public to see all our Iowa County Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame recipients.
When Diane’s daughter joined 4-H, Diane began volunteering with 4-H. She believes in the benefits of 4-H and is constantly promoting the program and encouraging involvement of members’ families as well. Diane welcomes families to club meetings and works hard to get to know the members and their families. She helped members excel in all areas of interest. She celebrated the little victories, as much as the big ones, for her current and past members.
Diane provided many educational and learning opportunities for her club members. Often times her club will do group projects involving the community, so the members learn the importance of being active citizens and it provides them skills to be able to communicate with all age groups. This promotes our youth to leave things better than they receive them.
Diane has a great passion for working with youth and wants each of them to grow, learn, and achieve their dreams. She has been a true asset and has given so much to Iowa County over the years that it is impossible to acknowledge all of her contributions. Bestowing this honor to Diane is one way to thank her for all she has done for the youth in Iowa County. We are truly grateful for all that she has given to our 4-H program, the community and the youth in Iowa County over the years.
Thank you Diane Wilson!
