Robert and Linda Andersen were married in 1976. Robert grew up as an active 4-H member in East Pottawattamie County. During Robert’s years in 4-H he showed sheep and cattle, spending many hours in the barns caring for his animals. Both Robert and Linda knew the life skills 4-H would offer their youth. They encouraged their children, Wade and Bobbi, to be active in the East Pottawattamie 4-H program. Their grandchildren are now showing cattle at the Pottawattamie County Fair as the third generation.
Robert graduated with the class of 1962 at AvoHa High School. Following graduation Robert served his country during the Vietnam War. He would then return to operate a farm north of Avoca. Robert is still actively working on the farm operation with his son-in-law.
Linda was a graduate of Tri-Center High School. She had a tax and accounting business for over 30 years. Linda served as the school board secretary for AvoHa and Boyer Valley School districts. She retired from her position as interim finance director and accountant for the City of Council Bluffs in 2010.
Linda served as an organizational leader of the Pleasant Peppy Pals from 1989 – 1998. This was the last all girls club in East Pottawattamie County. During this time she instilled in the club members the importance of food and nutrition, clothing, and leadership projects. Linda made sure each club member was enrolled in these projects on a three year rotation. Teaching the youth the values of becoming tomorrow’s leaders. Linda also made sure all of the Pleasant Peppy Pal club members attended a musical or play every year in Omaha.
Robert and Linda were active members of the Pottawattamie County Fair Board. Linda dedicated her time as the horticulture and food superintendent for the open class entries. The couple’s hours of volunteerism were greatly appreciated during their many years of service to the organization.
