Carol Sparr grew up on a farm near Rulo, Nebraska. She graduated from Falls City, Nebraska High School and Peru State College. Carol has been married to her husband Ted for 48 years and they have made their home in Red Oak, Iowa.
Carol became involved in 4- H when her daughter, Trasy, joined the Red Oak Rockettes 4-H club in 1980. She served as club leader throughout the years her daughter was a member. She has served as Food and Nutrition superintendent for the Montgomery County Fair for 35 years and helps to oversee the 4-H bake sale. Over the past 20 years Carol and Ted have annually sponsored multiple trophies for both static exhibits and the rabbit show at the Montgomery County Fair. Fair time in Red Oak continues to be one of their favorite times of year and they enjoy spending as much time as possible on the fairgrounds watching the dog and rabbit shows, viewing the 4-h exhibits, and visiting with friends.
Carol taught school for 27 years in the Red Oak, Wales, and Ralston, NE school districts after beginning her teaching career in a one-room school house in southeast Nebraska.
She spends most of her free time volunteering in the community when not caring for her husband Ted who became disabled in 1999. Carol serves on the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary board where she has served twice as president, delivers Meals on Wheels and does the book cart at the hospital. She serves on the Montgomery County Board of Health, she is a member of P.E.O. and First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. Carol & Ted are strong supporters of the Red Oak schools and were honored in1999 when they were selected as the Fans of the Year and in 2008 when they were chosen to be Grand Marshals of the homecoming parade.
