Richard Sammons was passionate about the Southern Iowa Fair.
In high school, he was a member of the Eddyville FFA chapter. After high school, he married his wife Julie. They became parents of a daughter, Tayler.
Taylor was active in 4-H and FFA, so Richard became involved with her projects and activities serving as a 4-H Horse Superintendent at the Mahaska County Fair. He served as superintendent for three years and then joined the Southern Iowa Fair Board. He served on the fair board for seven years and was a current and active member up until his diagnosis and illness with cancer.
Richard was a hard worker and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. During his time as a horse superintendent and fair board member, Richard provided assistance to many 4-H members and families. He helped members to gain confidence in their horse projects, helped mark the campgrounds before the fair, assisted with stalling preparations, and took part in other special events.
Richard always looked forward to camping at the fair and spending time with family and friends. Richard never knew a stranger and is missed by many.
