Susan Sedgwick began her 4-H volunteer career while working on the family farm south of Charles City. She served on the Floyd County Extension Board of Directors Council from 1990-present. She has held many offices on this council with the most recent as treasurer. Her personal and dedicated leadership as a member of this council has resulted in many positive local changes in the Floyd County 4-H community.
Susan served on the Iowa State Extension Council for 2 three year terms. Like all great volunteers, Susan liked to share her knowledge from participating in hours of workshops, of the state’s endeavors, back to the local 4-H community.
Susan’s deep-seated personal and long-term commitment to 4-H is further exemplified by her creation of and contribution to the Floyd County Marksman 4-H club. She was instrumental in starting this 4-H club in 2005. This club promotes citizenship and leadership through localized activities. The 4-H members of this club learn the responsible and correct way to shoot firearms/bow and arrows.
She has often said, “Everyone can be in 4-H because there is something for everyone. I am glad that my parents afforded the opportunity for me and my siblings to be in 4-H.” Sue feels being involved with 4-H, in the county and state levels, has been one of the best experiences of her life.
You will still find Susan at many 4-H events and fairs. Her three sons participated in 4-H and now her grandchildren are participating at the county fair. She is still very active in helping the youth in Floyd County, including her grandchildren, in 4-H. Susan’s family are proud to honor and recognize her for her dedication and love of 4-H. She has often mentioned, once 4-H is in your blood it’s hard to let it all go.
