Emmet County’s 2015 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductee is Athlyn Black. As a
4-H’er herself in Wright County, Athlyn was a member of the Eagle Red Peppers 4-H Club. She really enjoyed participating in skits, sewing, baking, and 4-H Fun Nights. A highlight of her 4-H career was winning the dress revue her junior year in high school with a skirt and matching blouse she had sewn.
As a volunteer, throughout her adult years, Athlyn shared her talents volunteering to be a 4-H leader, helped to organize and MC the 4-H Fashion Show and helped with many 4-H workshops and events. She also led the Emmet County 4-H Band, which performed at the Emmet County Fair.
Athlyn helped several years with alternative evaluation at the Iowa State Fair, assists the judges at the Emmet County Fair on judging day, has helped in the 4-H office during the fair, and was willing to work with many 4-H’ers of the club her daughters were part of during their 4-H careers, to complete their 4-H projects.
Athlyn has also helped to provide and set up the sound system for 4-H activities like Awards Night or the Fashion Show at the fair. We appreciate people like Athlyn who are always willing to volunteer their time for 4-H! Thanks and congratulations Athlyn!
