Coletta Weeda from Denison, IA is the 2015 Crawford County Hall of Fame Honoree. Coletta’s thirty years of outstanding service and dedication to the 4-H program makes her an excellent inductee. Her ability to model service, volunteerism, integrity, and leadership has assisted hundreds of 4-H members in reaching and surpassing their goals.
Coletta’s 4-H experience began with her membership in the Rock-Kee-Union all girls
4-H club. After graduating from high school, she attended Iowa State University where she received her teaching degree in Home Economics. Coletta married Dan Weeda in 1974 and moved to Tingley, Iowa. She taught for a brief time and then chose to stay at home, to raise three children, and help with the farm.
Coletta became one of the leaders of the Tingley Toppers in 1983, a position she maintained until 1994. During her tenure, membership grew and countless hours were spent assisting members with projects, presentations, and write-ups. While in Ringgold County, Coletta also served on the Extension Council from 1988-1991.
In 1994, Coletta and her family moved to Crawford County where she became the Crawford County Extension Education Director. She remained in this position for 19.5 years until she retired in 2013. Currently, Coletta serves on the Crawford County Extension Council.
Coletta’s position as County Director was not just a job, but a lifestyle. She worked many hours, nights, and weekends to assist, not just the 4-H members, but the whole county. She judged achievement shows, presented at 7th grade Ag Day, served as a business partner to a kindergarten classroom, and was always willing to help at any 4-H function. Coletta has also contributed on the state level. She chaperoned 4-H trips, served on the interview panel for scholarships, and has assisted with the Iowa State Fair 4-H Beef crew.
When people in Crawford County think about 4-H, they think of Coletta. Her dedication to the development of youth, her passion for the program, and her willingness to serve are the reasons she is this year’s Crawford County Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Honoree.
