Carolyn Bauman has been actively involved in the Appanoose County 4-H Program and the Appanoose County Fair since 1961. Carolyn was a leader of the True Blue 4-H Club during the late 70’s and early 80’s when her children were in 4-H. She was also on the Appanoose County 4-H Committee for multiple terms during that same time frame. Her husband, Alfred, was on the fair board and sheep superintendent for 50+ years and she was always along to help get everything ready at the fair.
After her children were out of 4-H she started helping, when needed, at the Extension Office. She then was put in charge of the 4-H Exhibit Building during the fair and held this position for several years. Even at age 82, she still hasn’t missed being at the fair on entry day, to help get everything checked in the building. The Appanoose County Extension staff leaned heavily on Carolyn’s knowledge surrounding the County 4-H Program and often called her to answer questions many others have forgotten.
4-H was always very important to the Bauman Family. Both of her children presently serve on the Appanoose County Fair Board to carry on the family tradition. She also has five grandchildren that are 4-H members in Appanoose County. She continues to be there every day to watch all of their activities and shows.
Carolyn is also very involved in the First United Methodist Church where she has been a member since childhood. She is a member of the United Methodist Women and was involved in the Esther and Mary Church Circle. For the last 15 years she has volunteered as the collection counter and several record keeping duties every week at the church.
