Eileen Pickard has been an instrumental part of the Jefferson County 4-H program for many years. She began her involvement in 4-H as a member of the Busy Bees 4-H Club in Wapello, where she participated in sewing, furniture refinishing, home decorating, and decoupage projects.
When her children joined 4-H, she served as a project leader in the Des Moines Ramblers 4-H Club. She later became the organizational leader of the Dynamics 4-H Club, and then a volunteer helping with Fairfield Clover Kids.
The aspects of 4-H and Clover Kids that Eileen enjoys the most are helping the kids with their projects and watching them learn and grow as individuals. She also enjoys serving her community as a mentor to the children. This year Eileen is also retiring from Libertyville Elementary School as a cook.
Several members of her family have also been in 4-H, including her brother, husband, four children, and granddaughter. In the past Eileen has been quoted as saying, “4-H opened doors of opportunity for my children” and “4-H is what you make of it”. She is glad her children and granddaughter have followed in her footsteps and cannot image life without 4-H involvement.
