Theresa Heitman of Williamsburg is Iowa County’s nomination for the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
Theresa Walker Heitman began her 4-H career in the 1970’s in Iowa County as a member of the Sumner Sweethearts, with projects like beef, clothing, home improvement, foods and nutrition, citizenship, communication and child development. Some of Theresa’s 4-H career highlights: giving an education presentation at the Iowa State Fair, “Dry it, You’ll Like it!”, joining the Georgia 4-H Exchange Program, attending the Chicago Trip, State 4-H Camps, State
4-H Conference, CWF Short Coarse, County Officer- Vice President, being selected as a State Officer Candidate and participating in the Michigan 4-H Exchange Trip.
When her two children, Bryce and Brandt were old enough to participate in
4-H, she began her role as a 4-H leader for the Pilot 4-H’ers. During Theresa’s tenure as a 4-H Leader, they organized and hosted two “Iowa County Farm Safety Day Camp” events at KINZE Manufacturing. Over 300 Eastern Iowa
4-H’ers participated in these two events! Pilot 4-H’ers also organized a Health Fair at the Williamsburg Rec Center. This event was partnered with Monsanto and had to have a Hispanic component, over 200 migrant families participated.
Theresa Heitman is an example of an outstanding 4-H volunteer and 4-H parent; she is always ready to help, positive in her approach in working with others and understands the importance of youth learning life skills through 4-H.
