Jim Magee is the very definition of 4-H supporter. For 19 years, Jim was the superintendent of the Beef Pen of 3 project. In Boone County, the goal of the Beef Pen of 3 is to be a realistic cattle-feeding experience where the emphasis is placed on the actual record of income, expenses and rate of gain. The program consists of purchasing, feeding and marketing three head of steers or three head of heifers. Jim oversaw this program and helped make this project a learning experience for all who participated. Jim recruited sponsors for Pen of 3 awards based upon the participants’ records from the project.
When Jim sets a goal, you know that he will get it done. Jim is an active member in the Livestock Auction Committee that coordinates the livestock auction held during the Boone County Fair. Jim helps find donations for the Fair Auction Supporters fund that helps ensure that every 4-H’er gets a premium and/or their animal is purchased.
According to Boone County ISU Extension and Outreach records, Jim Magee has been an active member of the Extension Council nominating committee since 1994 and played an integral part of passing the referendum in Boone County in 1992.
Jim was also a Boone County Fair Board member for more than 25 years. While on the fair board, Jim worked hard every year to find donors for the Fair Booster program and helped make improvements to the fairgrounds to make the grounds nice for the youth, families and the public. You could often see Jim at the fairgrounds cutting down tree branches, hanging up gates, cleaning and much more to make the grounds look great.
Jim is also very active in the community through his church and the Boone Lions Club. The residents of Boone County look forward to the Boone Lions Club Turkey Dinner fundraiser for which Jim sells tickets and helps serve. Jim is very dedicated to the organizations for which he is passionate. This dedication and passion help make the best better in Boone County.
