During her time with ISU Extension, Jean has been a strong influence behind the start of numerous programs including Speak Up, a public speaking program for 5th graders, Farm Safety for 3rd graders, and several project clubs such as Shooting Sports, Lego, and Llama Club. She planned and hosted many workshops for various project areas including a babysitting workshop that has reached over 1,100 youth.
Jean worked with local schools providing enrichment programs including EPAK (Education Partners; Agriculture & Kids), for which she continues to serve on the planning committee and teaching sessions, and Clover Kids. She has lead leadership programs such as Ricochet and planned annual summer camps for elementary aged youth. Jean served on numerous state and local 4-H committees and has helped implement many new processes throughout her time as CYC.
Jean retired in January after 33 years with ISU Extension. She had the opportunity to touch the lives of many youth and their families. She now spends much of her time with her husband, Bob, sewing, touring Iowa wineries, and visiting their three children, their spouses, and their first granddaughter, Kinley. She also keeps herself busy as a member of numerous community organizations such as the CARE Team, RSVP Board, Prairie Quilters, Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, and Kossuth County Auxiliary.
Jean will always bleed green for the 4-H program and can enjoy her retirement knowing she has helped shape the lives of many youth in Kossuth County.
