Evelyn OliverEvelyn comes from a family where everyone of the seven siblings start with the letter E – Eldon, Earl, Elaine, Elsa, Ellen, Emily, and Evelyn. We would like to add another E to the list, Excellent!

Evelyn McAlexander Oliver came to Harrison County from a strong 4-H family in Ringgold County. She was herself a member of the Beacon Bombers and Beacon Bomberettes 4-H Clubs of Beaconsfield. Evelyn showed pigs every year during her time in 4-H. She also had bread, a yardstick holder and a constructed dress selected for exhibition at the Iowa State Fair.

Evelyn was a project leader for the Hawkeye Ramblers 4-H Club in Woodbine for 12 years where her main areas were recordkeeping and communications. She also helped youth with other areas as needed. Evelyn just retired in January, 2013 as a member of the Harrison County Extension Council after 16 years of service. She served several terms as president and treasurer. Evelyn is an important part of our fair volunteer team. She checks in youth on entry day, figures the premiums for the 4-H building, and helps with the communications. She is always willing to help where needed.

Evelyn taught school for many years and is an outstanding first grade teacher. Her quiet manner captures the youth’s attention. The children love Mrs. Oliver as their teacher.

Evelyn and her husband Larry have four children – Alex, Grant, Kate, and Carter – who were all very active in 4-H. She now has her first grandchild in Clover Kids; the tradition continues!

We are very proud of Evelyn in Harrison County and thank her for her many years of friendship and service. We also look forward to continuing to work with her for many years to come.
