Roger and Laurie Tiemessen have been involved in 4-H for many years.
Roger was an active 4-Her of the Washington Cadets with horse and woodworking projects. He was very active on County Council, completing county presentations every year with some going to state level. He was awarded the Citizenship-Washington Focus Trip and received the Danforth Leadership Award. He helped organize the birthday calendar fundraiser for their 4-H club.
Laurie was an active member of the Jolly Jinx 4-H club for 8 years. Exhibits taken to the county fair were Food & Nutrition, Clothing, Home Improvement and Visual Arts. She did Fashion Revue and county presentations every year and received many honorable mention recognitions and had 3 visual arts exhibits go to Iowa State Fair.
The 4-H tradition continued with their 3 children showing swine, cattle and had exhibits in several other project areas at the county and state fairs. All were active in county council, Fashion Revue and Communications Day. Their daughter Michelle was crowned Chickasaw County Fair Queen in 2006.
Roger and Laurie help out at the fair each year in the food stand and help serve at the BBQ supper. They donate every year to the 4-H County Clover Fund. Roger is currently one of the beef superintendents and Laurie is a visual arts superintendent and one of the bucket bottle calf superintendents. She serves on the Chickasaw County Extension Council and was on the 4-H Youth Committee for 8 years and is now the Extension Council representative for the Youth Committee meetings. For the past 9 years, Laurie has taken pictures at the 4-H County Achievement Show and helps put together a newspaper tab showing all the results and pictures from the Achievement Show through the New Hampton Tribune where she works.
Roger and Laurie were both awarded the 4-H County Honorary Member Award
