George Dane FamilyGeorge Dane was a Johnson County 4-H member in the 1930’s showing Holstein calves. He graduated from the University of Iowa with an engineering degree and later retired in 1987 as Senior Vice President and Trust Officer from Iowa State Bank & Trust Co.

He served in WWII and retired from the Army Reserves with the rank of Colonel after 30 years of service. He has taught in area high schools about his experiences in WWII.
 
George has been very active in his church and community organizations and continues to support the Johnson County 4-H program.
 
Mrs. Dane (Marjorie) was a leader of the West Lucas Whirlwinds 4-H Club.  Mrs. Dane volunteered for over 30 years with the Mercy Hospital Guild and accumulating over 5,000 hours
 
The Dane’s four children, Janet, Bob, Mary Jo and Bill were all Johnson County 4-H members where they showed beef, sheep and had various other 4-H projects.  They also exhibited at the Iowa State Fair.  Janet Dane Driscoll has been a volunteer 4-H leader for over 25 years. Bob and Bill served in the military and Bill retired after 20 years in the National Guard. Both are active volunteers in their churches. Mary Jo retired from the Iowa City Community Schools where she taught Junior High language arts.
 
Two of the Dane grandchildren, Jane and Brian Driscoll were also Johnson County 4-H members.
