Wendy was raised on a farm in Jasper County. Wendy was a member of the Jasper County Hickory Grove Sunbeams, an all girls 4-H club, and was a state fair exhibitor. Wendy worked as a secretary and helped Gary with the farming and recordkeeping. She is now retired, but continues to assist Gay’s son, Troy, with the farm books. Wendy currently serves on the Greene County Extension Council and recently served on the Steering Committee for Mid-Life & Beyond, as well. She is treasurer for the Churdan Methodist Church and Parish Treasurer for the Paton-Churdan United Methodist Churches, on the Administrative Board, and was a Youth Sunday School Teacher.
The late Gary Mount was born and raised in Greene County. He attended Iowa State University for nearly four years until his father was injured, and he returned home to care for the family farm. Gary managed a grain trucking business. He continued to farm until his short illness. Gary served as a 4-H leader for the Cedar Highland Club. Gary was active in his community not only in 4-H, but also served on the Churdan Elevator co-op board, on the boards of Greene County REC/Midland Power Co-op for 41 years and served his last three years on the CIPCO board. He as a member of the Churdan United Methodist Church, serving as Administrative Council Chair, Lay Leader, and Adult/Youth Sunday School Instructor, and was a Certified Lay Speak. He was a member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association, Greene County Farm Bureau, Churdan Lions Club, Little League coach, and on the Paton-Churdan football “chain gang”.
Both Gary and Wendy have been huge supporters of the Greene County 4-H program. In the picture of Gary, he is shown during one of his 16 years as announcer of the 4-H Beef Show. Together they volunteered their time at Clover Café during county fair, along with other numerous 4-H events. Wherever help was needed, Gary was there. Gary worked many hours behind the scenes with all of the kids during the fair. Gary and Wendy enjoyed spending time at the Iowa State Fair with their kids and their projects, especially the horse project.
