Edward & Agnes BreuerDuring their years as 4-H members, these two were both exhibiting steers against each other in the Grand Champion Steer class.  Her steer won the class and she eventually won his heart.  She won the Grand Champion Honor!  Edward was a member of the Burlington Harvesters 4-H Club and Agnes was a member of the Unity H 4-H club.

During their 4H careers Edward Breuer and Agnes Wiemann met up many times at roller skating parties and judging contests among the area clubs.  They both graduated from Burlington High School in 1938 and eventually married in 1945. From then on The Breuer name has been synonymous with the Des Moines County Fair.  Edward was on the DMC Fair Board for 20+ years. Agnes was the "leader" of her own crew of 9 girls and 2 boys.
They are the proud parents of eleven children.  They have 23 grandchildren and 10 of them were/are in 4H and 7 great grandchildren to date.
Although Agnes was never an official 4H leader she was on the extension council and helped with various projects and activities through her children's 4H careers. While she was in 4H she showed beef, sewed, canned, baked, and was on a demonstration team.  Edward showed beef and dairy.
Edward was on the fair board during the transition of the fair moving to its current site due to the highway going thru the old fair grounds.  He was involved with organizing the joint college and fair board. He helped by encouraging the supervisors to allocate money for our fair which continues today.  At the time Cecil Krekel, John Witte, Glen Fritz, Howard Keitzer and others were members of the DMC Fair board.
You can still see Edward today watching his grandchildren exhibiting at the fair.  Memories of Agnes continues, as each year, in her memory a rosette is given to the Intermediate Fashion Revue Winner, which each grandchild has as a goal to receive.
