It would be very difficult to find a couple in Butler County who has given more to the 4H youth and the county 4-H program than Dennis and Sharon Schipper. Not even the Parkersburg tornado in 2008 was strong enough to keep these 4H volunteers down for long. Sharon had her picture taken and was interviewed by then Governor, Chet Culver.
Dennis has been a fixture in the swine building for over 30 years. He knows the answer to any question visitors to the building might ask. Although he’s stepped down from being the “official” swine superintendent, he is still there coaching his grandkids in how to care for and show their swine exhibits, and is willing to help others as well.
Sharon has been a club leader for 5 years, but again her presence and support of the Butler County 4H program dates back to when her kids were active 4H members. No matter what type of volunteer work arises in 4H, she is willing to give it her best shot.
Several years ago when the 4H Food Stand was just getting started, they were asked to help, which they were very willingly to do. The next year Dennis made sure the food stand was still going to be running and said, “We need to keep this going because it’s for the kids.”
Butler County is both honored and humbled to have as their 2012 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame recipients Dennis & Sharon Schipper!
