Joyce SaflyJoyce was active in Boone County 4-H all her life.  As a child, she was a member of the Harrison Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. As an adult, she was an active 4-H volunteer for 37 years holding many volunteer positions.   She had four children that where active members in 4-H (Julienne, Janet, Jason and Joel).  Joyce was a leader of the Colfax Cloverettes for 12 years and a leader of the Luther Livewires for 6 years.  She served on the Boone County 4-H Youth Development Committee for eight years (two four year terms).  Joyce also served on the Boone County 4-H Endowment board.   While serving on the Youth Development Committee and on the Endowment Board, she was very thoughtful in making decisions and always held the best interests of the youth.

During the Boone County Fair, Joyce coordinated the bake sale for 20 years.   Baked goods made by Boone County 4-H members to exhibit at county fair after being judged would go to the bake sale with proceeds to go towards the 4-H program in Boone County.

After her daughter, Julienne Blomgren passed away, Joyce and her family started the Julienne Blomgren Memorial Scholarship for youth in Boone County.  Eleven youth have received that scholarship since 2005.  Julienne (Safly) Blomgren was an outstanding leader of the Luther Livewire 4-H Club from 1994-2005.

Beyond 4-H, Joyce was an active community member.  She was a member of the Napier United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Beta Sigma Phi Chapter Xi Theta Omega.  She volunteered at the Mary Greely Medical Center in the surgical waiting room and gift shop.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Joyce (Bravard) Safly died on February 18, 2012 surrounded by family.  She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched during her lifetime.
