Vic and Sharla Fencl were each 9-year members of the Howard County 4-H Program and have been dedicated volunteers for more than 30 years. Sharla served as a 4-H Club Leader to the Diligent 4-H’ers for over 25 years and has been a 4-H judge for over 20 years with Vic’s support. Vic & Sharla have two children Tim and Sara. Sara was also a 9-year member of the Howard County 4-H Program.
Sharla credits her 4-H project experience in Home Economics with helping direct her to a career in education as a Family and Consumer Science Teacher. Sharla and Vic have been instrumental in the development and success of the Howard County 4-H Alumni Group established in 2007. Their family work ethic carries over into 4-H and serves as a catalyst to motivate others to be involved and impact young people today.
Vic credits 4-H to developing communication skills, work ethic and social skills. He has fond memories of the Howard County Fair as a 4-H’er and catching the looks of pretty girls. His sense of humor and smile surely won over the prettiest 4-H’er…Sharla.
The couple is carrying on a legacy of the Nast Family Farm in their retirement, continuing to volunteer with 4-H, and making time for dinner dates and drives around Northeast Iowa.
