Dave and Lois were both active 4-H members in Mills County, held 4-H club offices and became 4-H leaders in Fremont County. As 4-H parents, Dave and Lois helped chaperone American Royal, State 4-H Conference and CWF. Dave and Lois received the 4-H alumni award in 1977. Lois was an organization leader for two years and a project leader for 15 years. Dave was an organization leader for eight years, a project leader four years and on the youth committee six years.
Lois was a county chair for clothing and fashion revue, has been a county judge, judged achievement shows, been a comment writer for fair, did a pilot program for child development at the county fair, helped with the Bread in a Bag program and plans to keep judging and connected with the 4-H program even after her grandkids are out of 4-H.
Dave has been on the Fremont County Board of Supervisors, the FSA Committee and the Fremont County Extension Council. He helped the kids and grandkids and other 4-H’ers with projects as needed and at 4-H camps.
Dave and Lois coordinated food function at fair as club leaders. They say, “It is a lot of work but we miss it.” Memories for the two include club picnics on cattle show days, county basketball tournaments and the “suicide drink” (all pop mixed together) at dinners.
Dave and Lois have three kids who have all been in 4-H, seven grandkids and one great granddaughter. Lois taught all the youth (both boys and girls) how to sew and cook and has given project advice when asked. Dave and Lois used to sell feeder pigs to 4-H’ers, helped sell beef to 4-H’ers so they can have projects and still help house 4-H animals at their farm.
