2011 West Pottawattamie CountyRichard has been involved with every aspect of the West Pottawattamie County Fair for all his life, first as a member, then giving back to the fair as a volunteer.

He was instrumental in tearing down the old fairgrounds in Council Bluffs with his father, Oscar. They recycled the old lumber to construct all new livestock buildings at its current location east of Council Bluffs which is now known as Westfair. He spent countless hours pouring concrete, building fences, roofs, ticket booths and the like.

Richard served on the livestock sale committee for over 30 years and still today is Beef Superintendent, a position he has held since the fairgrounds moved in 1974.

There is hardly a nail or bolt on the fairgrounds Richard Torneten has not touched.
