2011 Wayne CountyMissy began her 20 year journey with Wayne County 4-H as a member. At that time, members were required to belong to a boys club to show livestock. Therefore, she was a member of three clubs; the Benton Battlers, Warren Warriors, and Jefferson Clay Livewires. She was an active member of the clubs serving on the county youth council, participating in the fair, and traveling to Washington, D.C. on a 4-H trip. Through these experiences, she gained an appreciation for the 4-H program and its many benefits.

In an effort to give back to the organization that contributed so much to her youth, she volunteered to be a club leader of the Clio Southwesters 4-H club. Missy made several changes to the program to improve communication among parents and members. She made it her goal to engage members in all that 4-H has to offer. She worked to make everyone feel like they belonged and had something special to contribute to the group. Soon her club grew to the biggest in the county and other leaders were asking for advice. Each meeting was well planned and included fun leadership building activities. It became a tradition for the Clio Southwesters 4-H Club to turn in the most record books after county fair every year. Though Missy had many commitments to her career, family, and other community involvements, she always made time to make the most of the 4-H program for each of her members. Missy also served as the Wayne County Fair Pet, Dairy and Poultry Superintendent.
Missy Petty’s 11 years (1998-2009) of leadership were a great asset to the 4-H program and will not be forgotten by her many 4-H members and their families. Numerous former club members are still in contact with Missy and constantly remind her she is missed. She is always willing to help out with any question a member has or volunteer when an extra hand is needed at the county fair. She continues to take time off of work to spend time at the fair and with her former members and their families.

Missy is a Consumer Information Coordinator at the Hy-Vee Distribution Center in Chariton, Iowa. She lives in Clio, Iowa with her husband, Clarence. She has three children, Katie, Julie, and Tom.  In her free time you can find Missy camping, riding with Clarence on the road bike, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
