Ron and Shirley WebbRon and Shirley Webb have been long time supporters of the Webster County 4-H program.  Their four children all were active in 4-H and enjoyed exhibiting baked goods, clothing, furniture as well as hogs and sheep.  The family raised and showed purebred Suffolk sheep for many years after their children were done.  For several years some or all the children would return home to help them show.  1992 was a very good year winning the Grand Champion Suffolk Ram at the Kalamazoo Michigan National Junior Show with a yearling ram.  Then later that year winning the Grand Champion Ram at the North American International Suffolk Show at Louisville Kentucky with a ram lamb. They quit showing after that and raised market lambs for 4-H’ers.  They continued to help with the local 4-H sheep show for several years.

For many years, Ron coordinated the commercial exhibits for the Webster County Fair.  As a member of the Fort Dodge Chamber Agriculture Committee, he was in charge of the annual sweet corn feed held during the fair.  Even though he is now retired, he continues to coordinate the sweet corn feed, traveling many miles to get that first taste of corn for the fair goers.

Shirley is a great mom and helped her kids get their livestock exhibits ready for the fair when Ron was busy farming and working in town.  When the 4-H club that she had belonged to as a youngster and her children’s club was about to fold because they no longer had a leader, she and another mom jumped in to be a leader for a couple of years.  A fun memory she remembers is baking pies for the 4-H foodstand to sell at the fair.

Shirley served on the Youth Committee for two terms where she judged many record books.  Shirley also chaperoned the CWF (Citizenship Washington Focus) trip in the early 80’s when her children participated.

Shirley continues to serve Webster County 4-H members as she coordinates the bake sale every year for the fair.  She loves to help with this as it lets her see all the amazing kids in 4-H and what they have accomplished during the year.

Ron and Shirley have enjoyed all of Extension programs over the years as they have learned so much and good things have happened because of taking advantage of such programs as the Master Gardeners and the Master Conservation program.

It is with great pride that we thank Ron & Shirley Webb for these contributions to the Webster County 4-H program.
