Doris Larson joined the Extension Service in 1967. She was hired as the office assistant. Her organizational skills and desire to work with the county 4-H program made her an excellent choice for this position. She kept the filing system orderly, typed correspondence, and helped with the design of brochures, newsletters and program materials.
Bookkeeping and keeping good records were her specialties. Doris made sure that all financial records and all county 4-H records were done in an orderly and timely manner. Doris was the “go to” person whenever club members or leaders needed information. She handled the county and state fair entries and the 4-H camp and conference registrations. Her efficient and organized efforts helped insure a smooth running office and 4-H program.
Very few people knew the 4-H members and leaders better than Doris did. She was a friend and mentor to all. Seeing the 4-H youth show their finished projects at the fair was one of her favorite parts of her job.
Doris also helped the fairboard when they needed her assistance with various projects.
Doris retired in May 1992 after 25 years of working with the Montgomery County Extension office and county 4-H program. For many years after her retirement Doris continued to offer her expertise to the office and the 4-H program, helping answer questions and volunteering her time.
