On behalf of the Jefferson County 4-H and Youth Committee, we have chosen Lona Harbison for the 4-H Hall of Fame 2010. She lives on a farm near Brighton with her husband Jerry. They raise cattle and have raised numerous other animals throughout the years. Their two children were both 4-H’ers and Lona served as a 4-H leader for several years. Now in her free time, Lona enjoys riding their mules and spending time with their grandchildren.
She has been the Jefferson County Extension Office manager for the past 13 years. Prior to coming to Jefferson County, Lona worked in the Washington County Extension Office for 10 years. She is the backbone of our Jefferson County office. She puts countless hours in at the office and she’s seen at all hours of the day and night during county fair time. Jefferson County fair brings another handful of duties to Lona’s already long list of ‘to-do’s’, including; entering the livestock weights and typing up each livestock show’s programs and auction day lineup sheets.
We strongly feel Lona is deserving of this award for the time and effort she puts into servicing not only our committee but countless other duties she takes care of for our county. She truly is an inspiration to those of us that see her work and she is always full of encouragement and always shares a smile.
