Frank Moore began his 4-H involvement as a member of the Buchanan Co 4-H Program. Frank was a town boy, who at age 9 rented a acreage on the outskirts of Hazelton to raise hogs as a 4-H project. Frank also planted an acre of asparagus and sold the produce as a project.
His interest in the swine project led him to showing his first hog at the Iowa State Fair at age 14. Frank returned to the Iowa State Fair to show a hog on the 60th Anniversary of his first 4-H experience. Frank was a 4-H Leader of Howard County Comets for 25 years in Howard County and previously a 4-H leader in Chickasaw County. Frank served on the Howard County Fair Board for 26 years and was very active in the Pork Producers.
Jan Moore served as a 4-H leader in Chickasaw County for 2 years. In 1970 Jan became the 4-H Program Assistant in Howard County and remained active in the program for 18 years. Jan and Frank’s children were all members of the Howard County 4-H Program as well as many grandchildren.
