James was born into a farming family in Hardin County where his father raised dairy cattle and purebred Duroc pigs. As a 4-H member in the Ellis Go-Getters 4-H Club, Jim loved being outside and found his passion for animals. As an adult, Jim volunteered as the club leader for Ellis Jackson Ag Stars for 23 years. He has been actively involved in the sheep project area as assistant sheep superintendent for seven years and sheep superintendent for ten years and counting.
Jim has been a role model for countless 4-H members, as well as his own children, Lisa, J.R., Jesse, Chris Parr, Shonda Parr and Natalie. All were actively involved in 4-H.
His dedication to 4-H is a lot like how he lives his daily life. He believes in faith first and family second. His efforts of volunteering in 4-H show how much he loves, supports and has pride in his family. Jim is a dedicated father and grandfather.
Jim hardly missed a 4-H meeting, fundraiser, or community service project. He brought his family along to activities to introduce them to the importance of community service, leadership and communications. Many of Jim’s former 4-H members have gone to college, trade school and have become successful farmers and business people.
Jim is the Lead Manager of Swine Development and Reproduction at Joe Scallon Farms. He has been involved in many community activities, including coaching baseball and softball teams, Immanuel Lutheran Church and always available to help a friend or neighbor in need. Jim and his wife, Rhonda, live in rural Iowa Falls.
