2009 Tama County  - Jackie SkalaJackie Skala has been involved with 4-H since 1987.  For five years, she served as an assistant leader for the Toledo Techs 4-H Club and as a representative to the county youth committee.  In 1992, she became the Tama County Youth Coordinator and retired from that position at the end of May 2009.  During those years, she worked tirelessly in support of 4-Hers and other youth of Tama County.  Her statewide involvement has included working with Denise Schwab to prepare the Pork Quality Assurance program for Iowa 4-H in 1998-99 and since 2001 being part of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance committee to develop the current FSQA Youth manual, database questions for testing and activities for counties to use.  She has served on the Iowa State Fair Advisory Committee for several years and on the State Fair beef check in committee since 2000.  Jackie has also been involved in the community as a longtime treasurer for VFW Auxiliary, and member of American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and Avenue of Flags committee for St. Patrick's cemetery.  As a current county council member and county youth committee representative wrote in Jackie's nomination, “I don't know of anyone who has put as much time and effort into making our county 4-H program so organized and successful.”
