John Wanfalt was the Extension 4-H & Youth Leader for Muscatine County from 1968-86, a span of 18 years. During that time, John spent many hours planning events to keep the hundreds of youth involved in 4-H active. Day camps for younger members, co-ed camp at the State 4-H Camp for high school youth, exchanges with other states, Citizenship Washington Focus trips, and organizing a county wide teen club were a few of the many events he planned on a yearly basis. John was the go to person who was instrumental in developing the 4-H Camp Langwood in Louisa County, then in the Davenport Extension Area. (The camp is now owned by the Louisa County Conservation Board). John was an out of the box thinker who felt that kids can learn leadership and citizenship skills in whatever activity they pursued, so he tried to start new clubs such as tae-kwon-do and a shooting sports program.
