Dwaine and Helen Long have been long time supporters of 4-H and youth in Montgomery County. Dwaine started helping with 4-H after his days in the military ended in 1953. He served as a 4-H leader for the Garfield Wolves for 10 years. Dwaine helped start the Montgomery County Fair in 1956 and was on the original board. He served on the fairboard for 38 years in various capacities. He also served in various positions, including president, with the Iowa Association of Fairs. Helen served as a leader of the Garfield Go-Getters for 5 years. She helped with the women’s programs at the county fair for 9 years and with various other youth and adult programs for over 30 years. Dwaine and Helen and their 4-H club members (including their son and daughter) worked hard in order to make the 4-H program a success in our county.
