April was an 8 year member of the Reeve Rosettes 4-H Club, where she served as an officer and completed projects in Clothing, Home Improvement, Creative Arts, Food and Nutrition, Horse and Veterinary Science. The past 6 years she has been the organization leader for the Reeve Hampton Hustlers 4-H Club and for the last 9 years has served as one of the county 4-H beef project leaders and county fair assistant beef superintendent. She is instrumental in organizing county beef workshops for 4-H members, setting up a tour to the ISU beef farm, and assisting with an annual area beef conference for youth. She makes legislative contacts on behalf of 4-H and Extension. She is a model for young women who are interested in ag-related programming and careers, and has spoken at state and national levels on this topic. She was the first president of Iowa Women in Agriculture, and assists with an area Women Around Ag Conference. She is active in organizations from the community to the national level and is an example of citizenship and community service in action.
