2008 Hamilton County - Wesley L. SchaubWesley L. Schaub was most widely known for his activities with the Hamilton County 4-H Band. He served as band leader from 1928 until his death in 1941. For 11 consecutive years he took this band to the International Livestock Exposition and 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, where it proved to be one of the featured attractions.  This band was comprised of about 60 Hamilton County musicians and they have gained nationwide fame for their concerts given in connection with the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago.

One can only marvel at the expertise and dedication of the band members, the Director and the parents.  Members met every Sunday evening to practice.  Parents packed picnics and family members into vehicles and traveled to the practice sessions.

The Band performed all over Central Iowa and at the Iowa State Fair, in addition to their annual trips to Chicago for about 15 years.

Karl L King, Fort Dodge, Iowa dedicated the International Favorites March to the Band in 1931.  This copy of the music is from the Hamilton County 4-H Archives maintained by the Hamilton County Extension Office.  The office also has a band uniform and a large photo of the Band along with all the delegates to the National 4-H Club Congress taken in1937 in downtown Chicago.
