Freddie and Shirleen Jepsen got started in 4-H in 1984 when their three oldest sons wanted to join the Charter Oak Boosters. In 1992 they became leaders of the Charter Oak Boosters. Freddie and Shirleen were honored with leaders of the year in 1998. Shirleen has been involved with St. John’s Lutheran Church as an officer in the PTL, taught Sunday school, and also did the craft program for Vacation Bible School. In the Charter Oak community, she has been secretary of the Charter Oak community club since 1993. Shirleen has been on the Crawford County Extension Council since 1999, where she has held the office of Vice President, and now is currently President.
Freddie has been also involved in St. John’s Lutheran Church which he has the offices of stewardship secretary and also on the Board of Education for the Sunday school. Freddie is involved in the community by being the treasurer for the Charter Oak Community Club since 1997, and was also on the Charter Oak Centennial committee in 1991. Freddie was a Director for the Crawford County Pork Producers and currently on the 4-H and Youth committee for Crawford County. Freddie and Shirleen are members of the Charter Oak-Ute FFA Advisory Board. In 1992 Freddie received the Honorary FFA Degree, and then in 2001 Shirleen received the Honorary FFA Degree. They received these awards for the involvement with the Charter Oak Achievement Days, Toy Show and also the many times that they have been giving support to the FFA Chapter. In 1999 they were honored with the Citizens of the year in Charter Oak for the outstanding community service they give to the community. In 2004 they were honored for the numerous hours in preparing for and during the Charter Oak Achievement Days.
They had all seven of their children in 4-H. In 1996 they got started with the second generation in 4-H with a grandson.
