2008 Black Hawk County  - Judy & Larry AntonThe Antons met at the Iowa State Fair while Judy was working at the boy’s dormitory.  That year Judy was working in the State Fair 4-H Office.  Judy was a 9 year 4-H’er member of the Jolly Jackson 4-H Club in Bremer County.  She held all of the offices in her club as well as Bremer County Council Vice-President 1956 and in 1957 State Girls 4-H Secretary.  Judy was a 4-H leader of the Big Creek Goal Getters for 7 years and evaluated county 4-H record keeping many years .  She was Iowa 4-H Foundation Trustee 6 years, Black Hawk County 4-H and FFA Fair Foundation Board member and secretary.  Judy is a member of Black Hawk County Farm Bureau Women that has helped for years with the Safety Day Camp around the county.  Judy bakes pies every year for the Pie Auction to help raise funds for the County 4-H and FFA Fair Foundation.

Larry was an 8 year member of the Big Creek Jr. Farmers, County Council President.  Larry served on the 4-H and Youth Committee for several years, was a Fairboard member 25 years and President for couple terms.  He is member of the Black Hawk County Cattlemens and past member of the Pork Producers.  Annually, Larry helps grill and serve for the Fairs Family Picnic along with Judy.

Larry and Judy have contributed to the Iowa State 4-H Foundation and are life members of the Black Hawk County 4-H and FFA Fair Foundation.  They served on the 4-H Alumni Central Committee 1969 and fund raising committee for the State 4-H Camp.  The Antons Received the Friends of Extension Award 1984. Iowa Masters Farmers Award 2000. They have also served on the Paul Barger Scholarship selection and presentation committee for Black Hawk County 4-H’ers attending ISU, for over 30 years.  They both have been very involved with the county fair each year helping with set up, writing comments for judges, grilling and serving at the Family Picnic, Banner judges for Parade of Clubs, host for the exhibits hall, livestock weigh-ins and check ins at the fair and in the show ring. They also are one of the sponsors for Completion Awards in Black Hawk County given for Record Keeping each year.

The Antons have been very involved with the IFYE program since Larry was an exchange student while in college.  They have hosted over 10 exchanges and have traveled many times back to visit the host families that Larry stayed with.
In 1999 they traveled back for his host families 50th anniversary.

They are the parents of 3 children who all have participated in 4-H on the Local, County and State levels.
