Robert L. Spenner, Sr. has been an active member of Washington County 4-H since 1945. He has been a member, club leader, chaperone, host family for the Japanese Exchange Program, served on the Extension Council and on the sheep committee for the fair.
Robert was a member of the Cedar Chips and Kalona Klippers 4-H Clubs in Washington Co. He showed Dairy Cattle and Sheep. While in 4-H he served on County Council, participated in the Wyoming and Michigan 4-H Youth Exchange, taught a 4-H Tractor Safety Course and promoted 4-H at the State Fair.
Robert was a club leader for Kalona Klippers, chaperoned trips to Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, hosted a Japanese 4-H exchange student, and managed a pop stand for Washington 4-H at The Farm Progress Show.
Robert won the Meritorious Service to 4-H award in 1977 and won Honorary Service to 4-H by Jackson Jets 4-H Club in 2005.
Robert is and has always been willing to help at weigh-ins, shows, setting up and tearing down for the fair and for any other 4-H events. Robert’s family of five kids and 11 grandchildren have followed in his foot steps and are actively involved in 4-H.
