Sally DeKok of Primghar, has been one of O’Brien County’s biggest supporters of the 4-H program for over 3 decades. As a youth, she was a member of O’Brien County Omega-We-Go 4-H club, and went on to ISU and taught home economics in Sheldon for nearly 20 years.
As a 4-H volunteer, Sally served as a club leader for 12 years, evaluated record books on the county and area level, conducted county-wide workshops and for many years, led the fashion revue committee for the county fair. Not only did she write and read the commentary for the fashion show, she created elaborate background sets, making the young people feel like they were in a Broadway show when they stepped on the stage to model their newly created outfits!
Sally is a Master Gardener and has put in countless hours of community service on garden projects in the community. She has been the superintendent of the open class crafts department for many years. Even in this capacity, her concern for youth shows, as a few years back, she started a quilt contest and raffle, with the proceeds of the raffle going back to the 4-H program.
Sally DeKok has what it takes to be a great volunteer for O’Brien County 4-H: a love for youth, belief in the program and a warm and giving heart. Although she is always busy, she is also the one that is most willing to volunteer when the need arises. The O’Brien County 4-H program would like to thank Sally DeKok for her hard work and dedication to the youth in our county.
