Eva Decker

Eva Decker is a 30 year member of the Lucas County Fair.  Not only has she helped her children and grandchildren with many fair projects, she also was the food stand director for 15 years.  She served on the 4-H and Youth Committee for over 6 years.  In 2003, she was voted “County Fair Grandma” and also awarded the special distinction of “Honorary 4-H Member” by the 4-H and Youth Committee for her outstanding service.  Eva’s husband Ivan was a sheep superintendent and a long-time member of the Lucas County Fair Board.  He has also been awarded the “Honorary 4-H Member” from the 4-H and Youth Committee.

Eva is being honored as an Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductee for her service to the 4-H Food stand.  As many who have been in charge of the food stand can tell you, it is one the hottest jobs you can have at the fair.  She can remember the thermometer in the meat shack and the food stand being over 120 degrees many times.  Eva took great pride in the quality of food being served and the cleanliness of the food stand facilities.  Under her leadership, many improvements were made for the food stand.  The number of refrigerated coolers had to triple due to the increased volume.  She also started a delivery service to businesses in Chariton for lunch and dinner.  The only time she allowed herself a break from the food stand was to watch her children or grandchildren in the show ring or 4-H exhibit building.
