Dorene Larson has been active in 4-H as a member, 4-H parent, and as a leader for a total of 44 years. Dorene was a club member for 12 years holding various offices and served on many committees. She received many county awards for her projects during those years she was a member. Dorene also served on the County Poultry Judging Team at the Iowa State Fair and placed in the top five in individual judging. She was selected as one of two representatives to represent Clayton County at the State Conservation Camp held at the State 4-H Camp near Boone. In addition, Dorene was selected as alternate from Clayton County for various state awards.
Dorene helped chaperone the county’s Citizenship Washington Focus trip to Washington, D.C.
Dorene and her husband Harry raised 4 children, who were all active in 4-H with 2 serving on County Council. She has helped research and write the history of her club, Giard Eager Hands. Last year the club started a Clover Kids group. Besides being the organizational leader for the Giard Eager Hands for 15 years, she has served on various county committees including the 4-H centennial committee, the Clayton County 4-H history book, and cookbook committees.
