Don Pingel began his work with the rabbit program in Cherokee County over 30 years ago. Don has served as the Cherokee County Rabbit Project Leaders since 1977. As the rabbit project leader, he has organized an annual area wide Rabbit Workshop, tattooed 4-H rabbits, and helped 4-H’ers as needed. As the Rabbit Superintendent, Don has evaluated and re-wrote the rabbit department rules as needed, hired rabbit judges, and set-up for the rabbit show. Don served as a leader of the West Afton Feeders for 15 years. He is also a 4-H rabbit show judge. He also served on the Cherokee County Fair Board for 25 years.
He is strongly committed to the rabbit industry. He has been a member of the Iowa Rabbit Breeders Association for 20 years and served as president for 4 years. He is still a director of the association and is a member of the Western Iowa Rabbit Breeders.
Don is a wonderful asset to the Cherokee County 4-H program. Without his help and guidance through the years, our 4-H youth would have missed out on a wonderful opportunity.
