Gordon grew up on a farm in Center Township of O’Brien County. He began his 4-H career at the age of 9 and continued until his graduation from Primghar High School in 1970. Gordon showed beef cattle, but received many awards with his swine projects. Gordon’s love of 4-H and helping youth continued as he continues to be a leader of the Highlanders 4-H Club which he has been for the past 21 years.
Gordon has been a member of the O’Brien county Fair Board for the past 18 years and currently serves as its Vice-President. Gordon and his wife Ruth have 3 sons who were also very active in the O’Brien county 4-H and FFA programs, and the entire family continues to spend many summer hours preparing the fairgrounds for the fair.
Gordon has been a big influence on the Highlanders 4-H Club members, always encouraging them in their projects to do the best that they can. Gordon Wittrock has generously devoted his time in helping the 4-H program and the O’Brien County Fair, and is very deserving of becoming a member of the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
