It is with great pleasure that Scott County inducts Gary Bein into the 2004 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. Gary’s 4-H days started in 1948 when he became a member of the Blue Grass Farmers 4-H club and remained a member until he graduate from high school in 1959.
Upon graduation, Gary became a leader of the club for the next 30 years. He also helped with beef, swine, and poultry shows at the county fair. Since 1982, Gary has been the Scott County 4-H Poultry Superintendent and has run a very organized livestock show. He has given countless volunteer hours through the years with poultry workshops and answering any questions 4-H members may have. He has been a mentor to many 4-H’ers through the years and gives of himself unselfishly to make 4-H an important part of many young lives. He always is helping young people grow through 4-H and is wonderful role model – displaying honesty, responsibility, compassion and humor.
Gary and his family are very strong supporters of 4-H and believe passionately in what 4-H does for young people. They are available to help with anything when asked and are truly committed to “Make the Best Better”!
