Dedicated, caring, enthusiastic – these are just a few of the words to describe Duretta Quail. Duretta was a 4-H leader of the Sac Busy Bees in Sac County for over 10 years, but her dedication to 4-H did not end there.
Duretta would receive calls from 4-H neighbors and former club members asking for help. She could be found listening to 4-H members practicing their Educational Presentations, tasting a new recipe for a fair project, and judging at Achievement Shows. She also spent many nights guiding youth at Record Book Workshops, Fashion Revue Workshops, and New Member meetings. She was a Clothing Selection/Fashion Revue Superintendent and enjoyed helping the members practice modeling and calming nerves before judging.
Duretta was always willing to help when needed. As a leader, she took her club beyond the traditional club meeting. She planned a variety of workshops to teach her club members life skills. One workshop she held in her home was a cooking project. She demonstrated to her club proper measuring and cooking techniques.
I know that Duretta is looking down at us right now and I can hear her say, “Remember to smile and look at the audience!” – Sue Doehrmann, Sac County CYC.
