2004 Johnson County - Les and Frances KempfLes, along with his wife, Frances have been the 4-H horse and pony club leaders in Johnson County for 38 years.  They have conducted hundreds of 4-H meetings, clinics, and shows to benefit the youth of Johnson County.  Through thousands of hours working with 4-H members; they have taught horsemanship skills but even more importantly they have helped youth develop skills in communication, decision making, and good sportsmanship.

Les enjoys judging and working with horses, but his greatest contribution to
4-H has been his skills in working with the 4-H members.   Frances has supported Les and the 4-H program in making sure all the organizational details of 4-H are handled in an efficient way.  Les is an excellent example of a leader who listens to all perspectives and makes decisions based on what is best for the development of youth.  As a team with many other adult and youth volunteers, the Kempf’s have worked with hundreds of youth in Johnson County.

Les and Frances are active volunteers in their community; Les was a charter member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department Posse; where he served as a volunteer for 27 years.  Two years ago, Les and Frances were awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Award by the Johnson County Fair Board.  The Kempf’s are synonymous with the 4-H horse project in Johnson County; they have worked with Johnson County 4-H volunteers to develop a top notch, youth oriented horse and pony 4-H project club.
