Alice Van Wert Murray was a Minnesota 4-H member. She married Pat Van Wert of Hampton, and began a long career as a 4-H and community volunteer. She was a 3 year Butler County 4-H leader and then served Franklin County as a 4-H leader and 4-H committee member. She received the Franklin County 4-H Honorary member award in 1948, the Franklin County and Iowa 4-H Alumni Award in 1956 , and the National 4-H Alumni Award at the 1966 National 4-H Congress for her continued contributions to the 4-H program. All four of her children were active in Franklin County 4-H and were selected to attend National 4-H Club Congress. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have also been active in 4-H. The Van Wert family donated the Pat Van Wert Memorial Chapel at the Iowa 4-H Camping Center, and were honored as grand marshals of the 2002 Franklin County Fair Parade celebrating the 100th anniversary of 4-H.
