Kenneth (Kenny) Byers was an 11 year 4-H member (from 1943 to 1954) in the Dickinson County Silver Lakers Fighters Club. He showed dairy, hogs, purebred beef heifers, and baby beef exhibits. In his last year of 4-H, Kenny exhibited the Grand Champion Calf at the Dickinson County Fair. He also served in many officer positions throughout his 4-H club years, including president. He attended State Fair Award Trip in 1951 and served on the County & State 4-H Judging Teams from 1951-1954.
In his 4-H record book, Kenny remarks, “4-H is a wonderful and grand experience. It has been one of the highlights in my life and it is an opportunity that every farm youth should take advantage of. The knowledge and experience I have acquired is unmeasurable and the profits I received from my projects is sufficient to carry me through college.”
Kenny remained a 4-H’er his first year in college and after 3 more years of college, he returned to Dickinson County and renewed his 4-H interest as a club leader. In the late 70’s Kenny took his father’s place on the Dickinson County Fairboard. He has been a board member ever since and has served as president for a number of terms.
We are thankful for the dedication and service Kenny Byers provides to the 4-H & Youth Program in Dickinson County and are proud to induct him as our county representative in the 2004 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
