Max Frazier retired in July, 2004 after serving twenty-four years as Boone County Fair Board manager. 4-H members and volunteers in Boone County recognize Max as the man who always has their interests at heart. He is often quoted as saying with a smile “4-H is the reason why we have the county fair.”
Max is the behind-the-scenes man who makes sure that plans for fair come together, from utilities and budget, to carnival, parking, and evening entertainment. Under his leadership many physical improvements have been made at the Boone County fairgrounds; a new campgrounds, 4-H horse barn and arena, beef barn, and community building expansion, named the “Max Frazier addition” in his honor. Max checks the fairgrounds almost daily and oversees the rental of the buildings throughout the year, including 250 events in 2003. Max is a friend to all, who works to be fair, honest, and to settle problems that are bound to arise on hot summer days at fair.
Max is a leader in his church and volunteer with the Salvation Army and Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Doris, have been married 58 years and have five children, thirteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren across the U.S who they will enjoy visiting during retirement.
