Lauren L. Christian shared his swine knowledge and expertise with Story County 4-H’ers and their parents. As a swine project leader, Lauren offered swine workshops and demonstrations that provided youth opportunities to gain knowledge about the swine industry. He enabled youth to practice and enhance skills through these hands-on learning opportunities.
Lauren was very involved with many Story County 4-H Fairs. He served as a superintendent in the swine department and initiated the swine derby show. After the terminal show at the fair, he held an educational meeting for exhibitors to analyze the information provided about each animal. Lauren had a skill of communicating complex concepts with youth and helped them to understand the swine industry.
Lauren was a kind man. This was shown in the way he worked with people, whether they were 4-H’ers, parent, leaders, fairboard members, or staff. He mentored many 4-H’ers who later were active in agriculture, the swine industry, and followed in his footsteps in supporting the 4-H swine program. Through his work the swine industry has been handed to the next generation - a generation with knowledge and commitment to follow in his foot steps.
