Fern Algoe was a charter member of Scott Township 4-H in her youth and became a club leader when her daughters joined as members. Fern continued to be a club leader for over 30 years, helping and encouraging all members to make their best better. She attended many training sessions and leadership conferences locally and at the state level and also held many workshops for her local club. Her four children, fourteen of sixteen grandchildren and so far ten great-grandchildren have been participating in the same club and county fair.
Fern helped many years with the open class exhibits at the fair and was also active with the Porkettes and Cowbells in Madison County, helping promote pork and beef production on a local and state level. She received many 4-H and other awards, because of her achievements. Fern also received the Friend of the Fair in Madison County in 2000. Fern continued her lifetime of leadership and volunteering until she passed away in July 2001.
